Painting Plein Air Landscapes and Seascapes

with
Louise
Lambert
September 5-9, 2011
In this workshop for all levels, Louise will
work with each student individually in the medium of the students
choosing.
See why painting outdoors was and still is
so popular. Learn how to setup and prepare for the outdoor plein aire
experience. Instruction will focus on selecting your
composition, editing the landscape and the relationship pattern and
colour. Guidance will be given in simplification of a
scene. Demonstrations will be in soft pastels. We will have the
opportunity to create two painting studies per day, one with the morning
light and the other with the afternoon light. Louise is
approachable, eager to share her knowledge, patient and encouraging with
her fellow artist.
Our location on Quadra Island is abound with
subject matter both intimate and panoramic. Join us for an
unforgettable painting experience, first enjoyed by the
French impressionists, that is alive and thriving today. Please plan to
stay for the
Quadra Island Paint Out
September 10-11 as part of the 9th
Annual International Plein Air Painters Great Worldwide Paint Out.
MORE ON PLEIN AIRE
Plein aire is a term
derived from the French phrase en plein air, which literally
means 'in the open air'. It is a familiar concept today, but in the late
1800s when the Impressionists ventured out of their studios into nature
to investigate and capture the effects of sunlight and different times
of days on a subject, it was quite revolutionary.
WHY DO IT?
Painting outside not
only allows the artists to see the true colours and form, that a
photograph can never provide, but the experience the sounds and the
atmosphere. It encourages you as the artist to increase your
observational and painting skills, creating a living painting.

Artist
Louise Lambert – “The Lady of Light” - wine art
Nothing connects the beauty
of nature with the valued traditions of the past like a cluster-laden
vineyard. Such breathtaking scenery and panoramic views are what
attracted artist Louise Lambert to the Okanagan Valley of British
Columbia, Canada.

Located on the
edge of Canada's only desert, Louise Lambert’s studio is surrounded
by the local vineyards that cover the hillsides above beautiful
Okanagan Lake. Okanagan Wines are now considered among some of the
best in the world.
Louise’s many showings
throughout the valley have garnered wide acclaim, causing the local
media to nickname her "The Lady of Light" for her ability to capture
within her work the spectacular lights and shadows of the
surrounding mountains, skies and vineyards. |
Louise's wine art works are
known for this advanced use of light, colours and the warmth that the
two create together. A myriad of life experiences have formed Louise's
style and her outlook to how she paints. "I take a holistic approach,"
she explains "I want people who see my art to feel better... feel better
about the world that we live in and feel better about themselves. We
live in a wonderful place in the world, and if my art can, in one small
sense, make that a little more apparent, I have done my job."
Her artworks of the
Vineyards of the Okanagan Valley are reminiscent of "old world"
paintings of the Tuscan countryside, which bear a remarkable resemblance
to the Okanagan Valley. When one views these works of art, it is
impossible not to feel a part of the landscape... Just imagine, lunch by
a vineyard, a baguette, cheese and a bottle of wine, to enjoy with that
special someone in your life... "Wine and Art are the most natural of
companions," says Louise.. "I am very fortunate to live amongst all of
this beauty, and I try to share the joy that my surroundings give me, in
my paintings".
Her breathtaking renditions
of vineyards both local and abroad capture the true essence of the
trade. Local estate wineries welcome her shows and displays, where both
tourists and locals alike acquire her work as a way of taking home some
of the ambience of their vineyard visit.
Louise's wine art paintings
have been exhibited in galleries and in multiple juried shows. A former
member of the Board of Directors of the Coppini Fine Arts Academy of San
Antonio, Lambert’s originals can be found in fine homes throughout
Canada, the United States, and Australia.
Louise has traveled the
world and captured its complexity and beauty in both portraits and
landscapes. Louise's artistic sojourn has taken her from art studies at
Ryerson University to further private studies in the US, Canada, and
Singapore. A random summer visit to the Okanagan Valley captured her
heart, causing her to recently relocate to the area.
