Cedar
Wallace is an
experienced and skilled instructor in the felting arts. Students will
leave her practical, hands-on workshop with completed projects and a
wealth of creative ideas.
This workshop is excellent
for learning specialized techniques for the beginner and intermediate
felter. Students will be working on small projects in order to have an
understanding of a number of techniques in the time frame .
Further workshops will be
offered in the future for larger projects.
Specific felt making
techniques that will be taught include:
-laying out flat felt,
basic felt making
-making pre felts and
inlaying prefelts into the felt
-laminating felts
together with pre-felts and silks etc.
-"nuno" felt fusing
small pieces of wool and silks onto woven silks or cotton base
-jewellery making
techniques i.e. cordage balls
-embedding into the
fibre
-methods of making
seamless felt
-needle felting
-textural techniques
Price:
$250 CDN per person includes Friday
evening 7-9 PM, Saturday and Sunday in
semi-private instruction, with unlimited studio time and delicious lunches
served.

All materials used at the
workshop are included in the fee and additional supplies will be
available to purchase at the workshop.
Wear clothes that can get
wet, as felt making is a "water sport`` so aprons and waterproof
footgear would be desired and you should bring towels (1-2) if you
can.

Cedar
Wallace is a fibre artist and papermaker from Hornby Island, British
Columbia who exhibits her work across Canada. She teaches basketry,
feltmaking and papermaking throughout the Vancouver Island area. Her
focus has primarily been working with felt, gourds, paper and
basketry and natural dyeing with fungi, lichen and plants.
