For those using
oils, a tube of Alkyd Gel medium is nice to have.
It is not
mandatory to have all of these paints. Bring other colours if you
have them. Some of the Gamblin Radiant colours are great to work with.
Some people will
be using acrylics--that is fine too, though some colours may
have different names. The Interactive by Chroma or Open
by Golden acrylics do not dry out as fast outside, by not forming a
plastic skin.
Bring a variety
of brushes. You should have at least one flat brush that is one inch
wide or wider.
Medium for your
paints – I use Gamsol with stand oil
Odorless paint
thinner for cleaning brushes
Bar of soap for
cleaning brushes
Roll or two of
paper towels
A portable set up
to enable plein air work – could be a full or half size French easel
or Open box M or
whatever works for you, but it must be portable
An umbrella
to
shade you and your work is nice. Portable stool if you prefer to sit
as you paint.
Minimum one pad
of canvas sheets 9” X 12” or larger (a pad of 16” X 20” can be cut in
half)
A 16” X 20” or
larger support board (pin your canvas sheet to it) Can be a piece of
plywood 3/8” thick or thicker.
Many painting
surfaces – can be canvas panels or stretched canvas or both. Minimum
of ten. The following are good sizes: 9” X 12”, 10” X 14”, 11” X
14”, or 12” X 16”
Please bring
three recently completed paintings. If you prefer, and if it is
possible, bring a few frames to fit your canvas or panels.
Do not hesitate
to call me anytime between now and the workshop date to discuss any
concerns or questions you may have.
