Activate your Vision

Plein Air Painting

with Michael Newberry

August 30- September 3, 2010

Get the art tools you need to activate your vision.

Personal visions are fragile; there are many areas in which artists get it almost right, yet they can feel trashed by doubt.

The workshop programs will enable you to ground your art in fundamentals, and strengthen your weak areas. These tools will give you more confidence, understanding, and power in your art making.

For those of you that want to develop your professional career, you will learn excellent ways to present your work, which will feel right for you, and reach the right people for your work.

I have been a full-time artist for over 30 years, and I love sharing my knowledge and encouraging others to find their unique visions. I also taught Life-Drawing, Composition, and Painting at Otis College of Art and Design.

Artist Statement

In my art I aim to project an individual's inner strength and joy. I
work with complex techniques to maximize color, light, composition,
and form. I know I am on the right track when all the voices in my
head agree on the quality and expression in the painting. Over my 30
years of making art, I have found that my work appeals to creative
people from many countries.

Michael Newberry Biography

1956
Born in La Jolla, California. At age 11, I was blown away by
Rembrandt's art, and I begin painting. At 17, I started selling my paintings and drawings.

1974- 1977
I studied under modernist Edgar Ewing as a fine art major at U.S.C., then studied in Holland at the Free Academy Psychopolis. Rembrandt,
Vermeer, Picasso, and the French Impressionists serve as my influences.

1977- 2005
I lived and exhibited throughout Europe and the United States;
painting full time. In the early 1990's, for only one day a week, I taught Life Drawing, Drawing and Composition, and Painting at Otis/Parsons in Los Angeles.

2005- 2009
I moved to New York, and continued to paint and draw prolifically. I started the Newberry Workshop and share my knowledge through a series
of online Art-Tutorials.

2009-
Present Opening the Newberry Gallery in Santa Monica, California in the Spring
of 2009. My work can be seen in a growing image library of over 600 images, www.newberryarchive.com one of the largest archives of a
