Improve Your Painting Skills
with Janice Robertson   SFCA, NWWS

Join instructor Janice Robertson,  for 4 days of painting instruction from Monday through Thursday. The class size will be small [maximum  7 people] and will allow for plenty of individual attention for each participant. 

Janice will demonstrate in acrylics but students are welcome to bring the medium of their choice. Janice has experience in watercolor and oils, as well as acrylics. Painters at all levels of experience are welcome to attend. 

The workshop will take place at the Firesign Studio and B&B.  There are two rooms available at the B&B and we can recommend other nearby accommodation. This workshop will be an opportunity to relax in a beautiful setting, meet new friends and work on improving your painting skills

9:00 am to 4:00 pm

Class size is very small, so register early

Price $475 includes 4 days instruction, delicious lunches, unlimited studio time

We have some easels, tables, paper towels, plastic containers, etc you are welcome to use. We like to go out together for dinner on Thursday night as a group.

The Quadra Island Studio Tour takes place June 5-6, so participants may want to stay on the island longer and visit the island studios.

About the Artist:

Janice was born on Vancouver Island, into a family with a long history of women artists. She lives in Fort Langley with her husband, artist Alan Wylie.

Since launching her professional career in 1989, Janice has received a number of awards, including the Bronze Medal in the Federation of Canadian Artists 2000 Signature Members show, the Margaret and William Foley Award at the 2001 Adirondacks National Exhibition of Watercolors in New York, and the Foreign Award at the Houston Watercolor Society's exhibition in Texas 2004.

She has been a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists since 1987 and in 1993 was awarded the organization's highest status, Senior Signature Member [SFCA]. In 1999, she was awarded signature status in the Northwest Watercolor Society [NWWS].

Janice's art training has included courses in the fine arts department of Fraser Valley college, as well as many workshops offered through the FCA. She is a popular workshop instructor, sharing her love of light and the techniques she uses to capture its moods.

Janice paints in acrylics, watercolors and oils. Her favourite subject matters include West Coast landscapes and still-life. Her paintings have been shown at the Birthplace of B.C. Gallery since 1997.

Small sketch book and pencil

A good selection of reference material that interests you- can be photos, sketches or found objects- anything that makes you want to paint. I will also have some photos to borrow if you need them.

Several canvases or prepared boards  [ 9 x 12, 11 x 14, 12 x 16 or larger if you prefer]

synthetic brushes [not hogshair] in a variety of sizes- round and flat

acrylic paint

medium- acrylic glazing liquid [Golden brand - I like the gloss one]

spray bottle for water

tray or palette for mixing paint

plastic wrap or plastic bag to cover your paints

bucket for water

tissues and paper towels

apron or shirt to protect your clothes

 

Basic suggested colors:

Titanium white

Hansa yellow

Quinacridone red

Pthalo blue

*Quinacridone nickel azo gold – this color is essential!

Dioxazine purple

Mars black

 

Additional colors:

Cad yellow deep

Pyrrole red

Cobalt blue

Cerulean chromium blue

Ultramarine blue

Green gold

Quinacridone burnt orange
